Interlibrary Loan Services
Interlibrary Loans is a service Western Counties Regional Library provides to our library patrons in co-operation with other lending libraries. Only books, National Film Board videos (NFB) and photocopies of specific articles in magazines can be borrowed through Interlibrary Loans. There may be charges for photocopies. Some libraries may not loan new or popular items and may charge for interlibrary loan services. Any interlibrary loan fees will be passed on to the library patron.
You can place a request for an interlibrary loan through our online catalogue. Once the book has been requested from these other lending libraries and has been delivered to WCRL, Headquarters staff create a temporary record for the book in WCRL's catalogue. The book then shows up in your account as available. The book is then sent to the branch library and the staff calls the patron once it has arrived. Due to the large volume of requests, all requests for interlibrary loan material are placed as soon as they are received.
The loan period for interlibrary loans is set by the lending library (and may be less than 3 weeks) Overdue fines are $1.00 per day per item.
Interlibrary loan materials cannot be renewed through your Library Account. Renewals for interlibrary loan materials must be received in Headquarters at least one week before the item is due. The decision to permit a renewal lies with the lending library. To renew your interlibrary loan please email the Interlibrary Loan Department or contact your local branch library. If you have one or more overdue interlibrary loans, you will not receive any other interlibrary loans until the overdue book has been returned.
