Gates Computer Lab

The Lab

The Gates Computer Lab is a training lab set up for ten users and one trainer/instructor located in the Yarmouth branch of the Western Counties Regional Library, at 405 Main Street, Yarmouth, NS. The purpose of the lab is to provide free computer classes and Internet training for the public and regional library staff in Southwestern Nova Scotia. The Gates Computer Lab has been established with the help of the Bill & Melinda Gates Library Foundation.

Using the Lab

Pre-registration for all classes is recommended. View the course schedule and register for classes online here. The Gates Computer Lab is available for booking by community groups and organizations. Policies and Procedures

Purpose

The purpose of the Gates Computer Lab is to provide computer skills training to library staff and to the public.

Free Use

Use of the lab is free for library staff and for the public. Priority for use will be given to library staff training and to groups and agencies which serve the needs of the disadvantaged.

Policies

Policies and procedures of the Western Counties Regional Library which govern acceptable Internet usage and acceptable library behaviour apply to the Gates Computer Lab.

Booking by Outside Groups

The Gates Computer Lab can be booked for use by outside groups and agencies when it is not being used for library sponsored or library related programs.
Use of the lab by outside groups and agencies is free, with the stipulation that no fees be charged to participants in courses being given by such groups and agencies.
Outside groups and agencies may use any of the software programs available on the lab computers. Other software programs will not be loaded on the computers.
Groups and agencies are responsible for proper use of the lab and will be accountable for any damage to the room, equipment, hardware and software done during their booked time.
The Western Counties Regional Library reserves the right to approve or to refuse booking requests by the outside groups and agencies.
