Children

a. Access

  1. Children (under the age of 14) are entitled to equal access to the full range of services, materials and facilities available to other users in the library.

  2. Parents or legal guardians will be given access to library records for their children.

  3. Parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for monitoring and limiting the use of library materials by their own children, including information which is accessed through the Internet.

  4. The library does not accept responsibility for children who are left unattended on library premises.

  5. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for their child’s conduct on library premises.

  6. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for any damages to library property by their children.

b. Internet Use

  1. Children (under the age of 14) must have signed parental consent to access the Internet. The parent or guardian gives his/her consent when he/she signs the child’s Library Membership Application which states: “I understand that I am responsible for my child’s use of any library services and facilities, including the borrowing of materials and the use of library computers and of the Internet. My child will abide by the User Indemnity and Release and Internet Code of Ethics.”

  2. The library does not manage the content of the information accessed through the Internet. The library develops and maintains appropriate web sites for children and teens and offers training opportunities for parents and children on safe and effective Internet use.
