Sélection d’articles
Library materials are selected by qualified staff in accordance with the principles put forth in the Canadian Library Association’s Statement on Intellectual Freedom. Materials are collected in a variety of print, audio visual and electronic formats. When selecting new materials and evaluating suggestions for purchase, the following criteria may be considered.
- Relevance to community needs
- Popular demand
- Cost
- Timeliness
- Canadian and/or Nova Scotian content
- Comments by reviewers
- Availability of funds and space
- Presence of similar material in the collection
- Reputation and importance of the author
- Clarity and accuracy
- Physical quality and format
Donated materials are evaluated using the same criteria.
Suggestions from users of materials to purchase are welcomed.
Members of the public may request a review of any materials that have been excluded from/or included in the library collection. Such requests must be made in writing and addressed to the Regional Library Director.
Materials may be withdrawn from the collection if they are in poor condition, outdated, duplicates, no longer of interest, or not circulating. The disposal of withdrawn materials is at the discretion of the Library Director.
