Fundraising @ Your Library
The Western Counties Regional Library must fund part (three per cent) of its operating budgets. This makes fundraising a vital part of library operations.
Throughout the year, the library carries out various fundraising initiatives (such as quilt raffles). When there is an active campaign at the 10 branches of the library, information on the campaign will be posted here.
The library also has major fundraising campaigns. A prime example of this is Adopt-A-Book that occurs every two years.
In the last decade, since Adopt-a-Book began, the price of books has steadily climbed. The library’s book budget hasn’t kept pace. Even as the library is feeling the budget pressures created by the need to stock new books on its shelves, it is facing the challenge of keeping pace with changes in technology.
In the past the goal of Adopt-A-Book is to have 1,000 books adopted during the two-month campaign. During the campaign individuals and groups can purchase books for adoption at their local branch library. When not in circulation, the books remain on the shelves of the branch library designated by the adopter. The average price of a book is between $25-30, but books are available for as little as $5. Bookplates go into books acquired through the campaign. The donor can choose how their donation is acknowledged. In the last decade the library has raised nearly $125,000 through its Adopt-a-Book campaign, which has been sponsored by CJLS Radio since its inception.
