Interlibrary Loan Guidelines and Usage

Most of the materials in the H.R. Banks Collection of Novascotiana are available by formal Interlibrary Loan request to research users at public, regional, university and special libraries. Requests must be made through established interlibrary loan channels: i.e. from the requesting library to Western Counties Regional Library. We cannot lend directly to individuals.

Materials sent on Interlibrary Loan are restricted to "library use only"; and the requesting library is responsible for the security of the material while it is on loan. Because of their nature, items from the Banks collection will be mailed out to borrowing libraries in individual boxes, rather than in envelopes or bags. Extra costs involved for shipping and insurance will be charged to the borrowing library; the borrowing library may require that the patron bear these additional Interlibrary Loan costs.

Western Counties Regional Library reserves the right to place restrictions on access to certain items in the collection, because of the condition and/or value of the item concerned. In such cases, we may advise that the particular item can be studied only at the Yarmouth branch of the Western Counties Regional Library. In a very few, rare cases, the condition of the material may preclude any direct handling.

For some research purposes, a photocopy of a short section from a longer work may be all that is wanted. We will be pleased to provide this photocopy service (within reasonable limits!). The charge would be 25¢ per page.
